Dundee United Business Club recently held their Annual Dinner at the Invercarse Hotel with special guests Sandy Davie and Billy Hainey who both played in our first ever match in Europe against Barcelona fifty years ago.Billy scored our first European goal ever and Sandy was of course our Goalkeeper that night in Spain. Sandy spoke briefly on the night and wishes to further convey his thanks to DUBC for both the invitation and the presentation of beautiful silver salvers to them both.
He took the opportunity to pay tribute to the memory of the six heroes no longer with us and felt that all Dundee United supporters owed Tommy Millar,Jimmy Briggs,Doug Smith,Finn Seemann,Ian Mitchell and Dennis Gillespie a tremendous debt of gratitude for the part they played in those historic games back in the autumn of 1966.
Another guest was Fraser Elder, journalist, broadcaster and lifelong United supporter whose assistance to the United in Memories display at Tannadice has been so important to its ongoing success and Fraser was presented with a plaque recognising his assistance which has now been permanently affixed to one of the display units at Tannadice Park.
Two fine speakers in Jim Morrison and Zack Stevens and MC Tom Dymock were the entertainers and the company enjoyed the usual excellent meal and service from the Invercarse Hotel and everyone now looks forward to the next dinner in 2017.
