Dundee United are proud to support the Dundee Mental Health Awareness Week Heart-Tay-Heart from 21 – 28 April by warming up in designated T shirts this Saturday and are pleased that St Mirren are joining in.
The week-long local campaign aims to put a spotlight on the positive work happening in Dundee for mental health and involves hundreds of events all over the city. Underlining the Club’s endorsement, Dundee United will also play an active role in Friday’s launch at Abertay with legend-cum-ambassador Hamish McAlpine featuring as one of the panellists alongside local author and local mental health advocate, Tina McGuff.
Club Captain Seán Dillon said: “Dundee United has a long-standing commitment to mental health awareness and I believe it is important that as professional sports people we play our part to encourage conversation and understanding of issues which for too long have been considered taboos.”
Louise Johnstone, Team Leader of Heart Tay Heart said: “We are very pleased Dundee United Football Club are so supportive of the campaign. Their involvement highlights the steps we are taking as a community to reduce stigma and discrimination towards mental health challenges.”
United’s participation in the Dundee Mental Health Awareness Week has been proactively supported by ArabTRUST who have provided the financial backing by picking up the tab for the 40 T shirts which are being specifically printed for Saturday.
Colin Clement from ArabTRUST said: ” We are delighted to be involved. Many of us experience daily life as a battle and it is vitally important that we all take mental health awareness as seriously as possible.”
